Mountain View, Bay Area · Beginner Ballroom
A 6-week deep-dive into Rumba — technique, body, music, and confidence. Taught personally by U.S. National Champion Denis Filonenko.
Come solo or with a partner · Beginners only · Limited spots
Denis is a U.S. National Champion in ballroom dance. Together with his partner Anna, he co-founded Feel Dance Team. Denis teaches this program himself — you get the champion, not an assistant.
Most beginner programs scatter you across five dances. You leave knowing fragments of everything and nothing well. We take the opposite approach — one dance, studied deeply, from the ground up.
What to expect
Six weeks dedicated entirely to Rumba. Not an overview — a real immersion into one of the most expressive and technically demanding dances in the Latin repertoire.
Most people learn steps. We teach you how to move. There is a difference — and after six weeks, you will feel it.
Rumba begins with posture, alignment, and how weight moves through the body. Before we touch choreography, you will understand how to stand, how to shift, and why that changes everything. This is the foundation that separates dancers who look trained from dancers who look natural.
The Rumba has a specific and exacting rhythm — slow, quick, quick — that must become second nature. We work on precise foot placement, weight transfer, and how to feel the beat rather than count it. When your footwork is correct, the hips follow on their own. That is the goal.
The iconic Rumba hip action is not a stylistic choice — it is the result of correct mechanics. We do not teach you to “move your hips.” We teach you to move your feet and weight in a way that produces natural, fluid hip motion. The difference is everything.
As the fundamentals settle into the body, we expand the routine with new figures and bring the upper body to life. Arm styling in Rumba is its own language — expressive, precise, and deeply personal. You will learn to shape lines that feel genuine, not performed.
The final weeks are about bringing everything together — not just executing steps, but responding to the music. We work on phrasing, dynamic contrast, and how to let a song move through your body rather than simply counting beats. The last class is a full run, followed by a glass of champagne.
At the end of six weeks, you will not just know a dance — you will understand how to dance. That understanding does not leave you.

“You can tell right away that the teachers know exactly what they’re doing. Very strong dancers with a lot of titles, but at the same time down to earth and attentive to each student.”— Anastasiya K., Feel Dance Student
You can come either way — solo or with a partner. The program is specifically designed to work for both. If you come solo, you will still dance every class and learn every element of Rumba fully. If you bring a partner, the experience deepens further. There is no wrong choice here.
No — and there is a reason for that. This program is structured like a university course: each week builds directly on the last. If you miss a class, the best way to catch up is through a private lesson with Denis — that is exactly what the private lesson add-ons in our packages are designed for.
Because real technique takes time. Most beginner programs spread across five dances — you leave knowing fragments of each. We go deep into one dance so you actually feel the difference in your body, your posture, and your confidence. One dance done properly is worth more than five dances done superficially.
All packages follow the same 6-week group curriculum with Denis. Private lessons give him time to focus entirely on your body — your posture, your specific habits, your personal progress. The more private lessons, the more tailored and accelerated your transformation.
This program is designed specifically for complete beginners. Denis has worked with hundreds of adult beginners and knows exactly how to make someone feel comfortable and capable from the very first class.
